Petition for the reopening of the Airlift Memorial in Frankfurt am Main
Dear friends and supporters of the airlift,
We are turning to you today with an urgent request: Help us to make the Airlift Memorial in Frankfurt am Main accessible to the public again.
The Airlift Memorial is an important symbol of German-American friendship and commemorates the Berlin Airlift - one of the greatest humanitarian achievements of the post-war period. The Berlin Airlift was an international rescue operation in which the USA and its allies, including seven countries, helped to save the people of West Berlin from starvation. The "Candy Bombers" who dropped candy to the children of Berlin are an unforgettable symbol of this time.
Current situation:
Unfortunately, the Airlift Memorial is currently closed. The reason for this is a tiny technical problem: a part of a C-54 aircraft that has fallen down. Although a solution is simple and can be implemented quickly, the memorial remains inexplicably inaccessible. The association that looks after the memorial on a public contract and with great technical expertise is ready to carry out the necessary repairs immediately. From the point of view of experts, there is no general danger of falling aircraft parts.
Our requirement:
We demand the immediate reopening of the Airlift Memorial. This memorial is a listed building and its accessibility is of great importance. It is not only a place of remembrance, but also a living testimony of history that symbolizes cooperation and peace between nations.
